Since being founded in October 1994, Powderfinger has come to be
regarded as a top indie radio promoter and publicity firm with
ties across North America. Powderfinger has grown rapidly
and experienced success with radio promotion, publicity, tour
support, and music trade magazines. Our strongest relationships,
unsurprisingly, are with radio and press. We have solid
connections at over 500 college and AAA stations across the
U.S. and Canada, and hundreds of press contacts.
David Avery
Before founding Powderfinger 10 years ago, David grew up with
strong gospel & rock surroundings in a musical family.
He earned a B.A. in music, did a year of music and philosophy
studies at the University of Lancaster in England, got himself
a M.M. in musicology from New England Conservatory, and spent
two years in doctoral studies at CUNY before realizing that
musicology types have no Elvis in their Pelvis…so he
split. He was also a DJ for four years, engaged in artist
management for two years, was Assistant Music Editor at Schwann
Publications for two years, and AAA Columnist for CMJ New
Music Report for over 4 years.
Winifred Chane
Since her graduation from Tufts University, head publicist
Winifred Chane has done it all at Powderfinger. Starting as
an intern, Winifred quickly became the head of college radio
promotions, and then was promoted to take over the Publicity
Department. Winifred has a broad music industry background
including publicity, tour promotions, event planning, photography,
and freelance writing. Having spent 5 years in Mexico City
and one year in Madrid, Spain, Winifred is a well traveled,
multi-lingual and multi-cultural. She also currently serves
as Editor and Events Coordinator for Skope Magazine.
David Virr
is a college radio veteran who has hosted the popular Britpop
show "British Accents" for the past 5 years on WMFO
and WERS, in addition to DJing various freeform and jazz programs.
His promotions experience includes work in commercial radio
promotions departments and field rep work for FilterMMM, among
others.
Eric Swenson
After spending 18 years in lame upstate NY, I dove into Beantown
as a music industry major at Northeastern University. Working
at Powderfinger Promotions is my first big step into the music
business, which will lead my to success as a famous rockstar.
=)
Jessica Peterson
Jess's dreams of being the bassist for 80's new wave rockers,
The Cars were crushed years ago. Since then, she's found comfort
in the arms of Powderfinger Promotions, who taught her, "
if you can't be good at
being famous, you might as well be good at promoting those
who are."
